Hi,
I have the following configuration on my Laptop:
1. Intel Dual Core Processor 2.00 GHz
2. 2 GB RAM
3. 160 GB Hard Drive (Two Partitions -> 40 + 120)
4. Windows Vista OS
Can I install SAP on my Laptop?
Is it compatible with Windows VISTA or XP/Win 2000 is required?
Is it only compatible with NTFS formatted drive?
What kind of Bit configuration is required (32-bit or 64-bit)
Do I need to attach any external Hard Disk to use SAP?
What SAP version I can install - 4.7 or 6.40 or other?
Please let me know as still I have the option of changing the OS and other upgradations - One month duration.
Let me know the best Laptop Configuration to install SAP (for ABAP)
I checkout some previous threads but was not able get the exact answer.
Please help me in finding the exact & best Laptop configuration...?
Regards
Rahul

Vista isn't supported. Vista is a client operating system. SAP supports the installation on Windows Server 2000 and 2003 (check the product availability matrix PAM at https://service.sap.com/pam)
> Is it only compatible with NTFS formatted drive?
Yes, NTFS is the only supported filesystem for windows based installations.
> What kind of Bit configuration is required (32-bit or 64-bit)
Depends totally on what you want to install. Check the PAM for the software you want to setup.
> Do I need to attach any external Hard Disk to use SAP?
Not if your internal harddrive is big enough. But it's likely that you will have the need for more space, yes.
> What SAP version I can install - 4.7 or 6.40 or other?
On Vista? None, at least not supported. So try it out...

Ok, than: change to Linux or Windows Server.

Rahul, honestly SAP Software is Client-Server Software. The SAP software itself gets installed on a server, the users/admins/developers runt he SAP GUI from their workstations that's it.
What is your use case to install it on a laptop? Training? Presentation? Development?
Depending on the use there are special downsized installations available (like IDES or the Developer Workbench) to enable theses applications without the need to install and configure a full fledged SAP Netweaver.

😆 Yes you can install.
Is it compatible with Windows VISTA or XP/Win 2000 is required?
😆 yes it's compatible but SAP recommend only Server OS i.e. Win 2000/2003 Sever
Is it only compatible with NTFS formatted drive?
😆 It is only compatible with NTFS.
What kind of Bit configuration is required (32-bit or 64-bit)
😆 either 32 or 64 bit.
Do I need to attach any external Hard Disk to use SAP?
😆 160 GB is enough no need go for external HD.
I suggest to go for 160 GB=(20GB for OS and 140 for SAP) So that in future you will not experience any space related problem.
What SAP version I can install - 4.7 or 6.40 or other?
:->you can go for ECC 5.0 or 6.0 whichever is available to you.

Hi. For SAP installation it is better to you to use server technologies --> Win 2003 server or 2000.
