Spool file of a background job

Former Member

Hello Friends,

In an SAP system, there is a background job which creates a spool file.

If there is no printer configuration done on the SAP server, how to find the location of this file in the filesystem?

Thanks & Regards,

Kunal Patel.

If there is not printer configuration, then no file will be created. Have you looked in SP01 to see if any jobs appear in the SAP spooler?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Actually only 1 printer is there which is the default one i.e. LOCL.

The job has created spool which we can see.

However, in SP01 the spool shows error. Also, output request shows error.

Kindly advice.

Thanks & regards,

Kunal Patel.

Hi,

Using the LOCL printer for background job always create errors because LOCL is the default printer of a sapgui PC and there is no sapgui connected to a job...

At least, you should choose "Only send to SAP spool" and not "Print immediately"

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

But could you mention where there settings i.e. "Only send to SAP spool" lie because in the user master data, 'print immediately' and 'delete after output' fields are mentioned.

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm not speaking about user master data but about the "Print specifications" of a batch job step.

Here in the field "Time of Print", you can choose between :

"Send to SAP spooler Only for Now"

"Print out immediateley"

"Print Later"

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I was able to locate the file in the filesystem.

Actually I changed a setting in the printer LOCL so that the spool is stored in Global directory.

But now there is a new problem.

The spool file in the filesystem is in a very different format as below:

Could you let me know how to change the format of the spool?

Hi,

This is the standard SAP format for spool files, you cannot change it.

What do you really want to do ?

If you want to get a text file with the content of the print out, you have to create a virtual "file" printer.

Check Note 6753 - Printing in file (to magnetic tape) or elsewhere

Hi,

Again thanks for your reply.

Actually this file is to be sent to mainframes for some processing.
