ERP2005 (ABAP + Java) need to configure LDAP auth with ABAP ume

Hello all,

I think this is possible but I wanted to see if anyone out there has any advise for or against this.. I just installed an ERP2005 system (ABAP + Java). Turns out that the only option for the UME is ABAP, we cannot have a "database only" UME or data with ldap etc.

I've seen some documentation on help.sap.com that leads me to believe that I can authenticate against the local LDAP using RFC from the ABAP ume. Or the correct term is probably syncronize the ABAP user database with LDAP so the passwords are in sync.

The two questions I have are:

(1) is the above possible? Can we still sync with an existing LDAP so the ume has all the user information from this LDAP server.

(2) Is there any way that I can un-install the Java stack and re-install Java as an add-on? Would be an add-on on the local host. This would save a ABAP re-install and all the ERP2005 ABAP patches to bring the stack up to date.

Appreciate any advice / feedback!

Thanks,

Tony

Tony,

As you stated, you can synchronize the information in the ABAP and LDAP stacks. For a brief overview and links to other topics, you can look here:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/0c/632441cd87a12be10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm

As you suggested you can configure the synch and authenticate a AS Java against the LDAP. This configuration is only available in release 7.1. As far as ERP goes, I do not think that is of much use to you yet. Here is the description in the SAP NetWeaver 7.1 Mobile documentation:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwmobile71/helpdata/en/44/28f44fdf6653ece10000000a11466f/frameset.htm

What may also be of help to you is the SAP NetWeaver Identity Management Identity Center. Take a look at the FAQ:

Michael,

Instead of re-installing would I be able to uninstall or de-implement the AS Java of an ABAP+Java installation and then install AS JAVA as an add-in?

Thanks,

Tony

Tony,

Sorry, but I do not know enough about how that would affect your ERP solution to say for sure. Maybe some one else will comment.
