Hi,

Master Data: It is the data which once created will be used for "n" number of times. The following is the master data in case of SD:

1. Customer Master Data

2. Material master Data - Finished goods, trading goods, packing material, returnable packaging, etc.

3. Pricing Master Data - Pricing condition records for mandatory condition types & for thise which require scaling.

4. Customer Material Information Record.

The data once created will be used for the basic day to day transactions like creating sales order, delivery, etc. The data can be edited also as required.

Hi,

Master Data means a data record strored in the system and which would be used again and again and also would stay for along time.

for eg:

u have a customer and u have received order frm him so u can store data reg his address, tax, inco , terms of payment decided etc in a master record and by entering the no. of the master record u get all values defaulted in the order. The customer might place order again and again so u need not ask him data again and again. If u say he is one time cust then create one time record..

similar arguments are for material, prices etc.

Also imp is the CMIR - u can store data related to cust and material together.

hope u understood meaning of master data

reward if helped

hi,

Master Data in Sales and Distribution

Purpose

Sales processing is based on the following basic structures:

Every company is structured in a certain way. In order to work with the SAP System your company structure has to be represented in the system. This is done with the help of various organizational structures.

In sales and distribution, products are sold or sent to business partners or services are performed for them. Data about the products and services as well as about the business partners is the basis for sales processing. Sales processing with the SAP R/3 System requires that the master data has been stored in the system.

In addition to sales and distribution, other departments of the company such as accounting or materials management access the master data. The material master data is stored in a specific structure in order to allow access from these different views.

The processing of business transactions in sales and distribution is based on the master data. In the SAP R/3 System, business transaction are stored in the form of documents. These sales and distribution documents are structured according to certain criteria so that all necessary information in the document is stored in a systematic way.

Hi

In SAP determination of any functionality, following are needed:

1. Input ---> Logic -

> Output

Now to support the logic to give desired o/p when input is there, we need some reference data against which logic can be developed. This data is called Master Data. Now we have different types of master data like Customer, Material, Vendor etc.

I will also define Pricing condition records, o/p records, text records also as master data as they also help to determine the logic for converting i/p to o/p

Hope this helps. Reward points accordingly.
