Estimating Effort of a Scenerio

Former Member

Does anyone any a way of estimating how long a scenario will take to develop? We are finishing up our Blueprint phase of our SAP implementation, and the XI scenarios need time estimates associated with them.

What methodology(s) have you used for estimating a scenario in XI? Any lessons learned would be helpful.

Thank you

Dear Whit ,

Effort estimations are done based on the configuration required scenario wise :

1)Requirement Gathering and Blueprint phase signoff of complete scenario : 15-20 days

2)Specs and Realization on Mapping document, approval for developmemt: 03-05 days

3)Design,Development and Initial development documentation for a given scenario : 5-10 days

4)Initial Testing for the given scenario : 2 days

5)Integration testing for the given scenario and changes if any:02–03 days

6)Integration testing in Quality environment : 01-02 days

7) Final Production migration and signoff : 01-02 days

Note : The above mentioned effort estimation is the tentative time taken for a particular scenario and it may vary in the cases where we have the following constraints

1) Standard inbuilt adapters of XI are not used

2) Inbound / Outbound R/3 transactions are custom development

3) Prebuilt scripts to receive / send the files to a location is not made

4) Sizing and hardware feasibility is not done

Cheers

Hi,

>>>>how long a scenario will take to develop?

some helpful questions:

1. do you use standard XI features

2. how many custom development you have to do

3. how difficult are your mappings

4. what's your experience with XI (remember XI is not that old yet so not a lot of developer with a lot of experience)

with the mix of those 4 you can estimate the time needed to develop your scenarios + standard time for testing in your projects (for your company) + standard time for post corrections but those are not for XI only they can be taken from your SAP implementation methodology

BTW

just ask you XI architect to help you this will be the best you can do
