Hi Experts
I wanted to know detailed knowledge of ADAPTER ENGINE, How it works?
Please refer some links.
Hi Dheeraj,
Adapter Engine is a componen that resides on J2EE.It handles communication between different technical systems.
Adapter Engine runs on the basis of Adapter Framework.
The Adapter Framework is based on the SAP J2EE Engine and the J2EE Connector Architecture (JCA). The Adapter Framework provides interfaces for configuration, management, and monitoring of adapters. It has its own queuing and logging services.

Hi Dheeraj,
The Adapter Engine Can be Deployed centrally and Locally.
When the adapter engine is installed, the central Adapter engine is automatically installed as well.
The PCK (Partner Connectivity Kit) is based on adapter frame work and is intended for business partners who do not have full XI system.
The IDOC adapter is not part of the J2EE Adapter engine and resides directly on the integration server host (ABAP stack).
Same for the HTTP Adapter.
Central and local Adapter Engine.
Central and local Adapter Engine: Automatically installed with the Integration Server.
Local Adapter Engine: Central configuration, Local execution & Distribute adapters across several
AE Instances.
Adapters hosted in the j2EE Adapter Engine
FILE/FTP
JDBC (DATABASE), JMS (WEB SPHERE MQ, SONIC MQ), RFC, SOAP, MAIL ETC.
Adapters not hosted in the j2EE Adapter Engine.
IDOC, PLAIN HTTP.
These adapters are implemented in ABAP and reside directly on the integration Server (ABAP Stack).
Thanks,
Satya Kumar

Hi,
Many adapters can be deployed in the central Adapter Engine and in non-central Adapter Engines.
XI messages are always directed to the Adapter Engine by using an internal HTTP connection and service user XIISUSER for execution.
The Adapter Engine provides adapters for connecting external systems.
XI is relied on XML based structures.
Adapter Engine is generally used to connect the Integration Engine to SAP systems and external systems. You use the various adapters in the Adapter Engine to convert XML- and HTTP-based messages to the specific protocol and format required by these systems, and the other way around.
The Adapter Engine is a separate software component that is automatically installed on the Integration Server. Its installed on Java stack. In this case, it is the central Adapter Engine. However, you can also install the Adapter Engine separately on another host. This is then a non-central Adapter Engine.
The Adapter Framework is the basis of the Adapter Engine.

Adapter Engine is a component on J2EE which handles communication between different technical systems. All adapters (except HTTP and IDoc) are placed here. It is JAVA based.
The Adapter Framework is the basis of the Adapter Engine. The Adapter Framework is based on the SAP J2EE Engine and the J2EE Connector Architecture (JCA). The Adapter Framework provides interfaces for configuration, management, and monitoring of adapters.
The Adapter Framework has its own queuing and logging services. This means that you can run the Adapter Engine temporarily without a connection to the Integration Server.
