hello, friend.

i do not see any disadvantage in using route determination (other than more work for the consultant). on the contrary, route determination offers many advantages.

route can be determined in the sales order. deliveries are also processed based on this determined route.

if you are using LE-Transportation, the route in the delivery documents can be copied into the shipment. and if you use this module to calculate and settle shipment costs, routes will also play a very important part.

routes are defined in IMG. you can define routes under SD or under Logistics Execution. when you have defined routes, you would also need to define transportation zones. you assign a zone to the point of origin (a shipping point) and another to the destination (the customer in the master data).

you then configure route determination, that when the system sees the combination of transportation zones (origin and destination) it will propose a route in the sales order.

if you want to configure shipment costs, you need to define connection points. you also assign a point to the origin and destination, and include this in route determination.

these are just general concepts. hope this helped you.

regards.

Check the path

IMG->Logistics Execution->shipping-> Basic shipping function->Routes->Route Determination->maintain route determination.

For maintaining the route determination you need two transportation zones one for the shipping plant and another for the sold-to-party. After getting these two transportation zones you can maintain the routes in the path mentioned above.

Advantages: When you will create the Sales Order Route will be automatically determined on tha basis of the shipping plant and the Customer Transporing zone if you will maintain the route.

Disadvantages: I do not know.
