how to take the backup in USB disk

Hi Gurus,

we have installed ECC6 in RHEL5 now i need to take backup in USB disk, will any one have an idea plese help me out to do do and which file we have edit.URGENT

The set up of the device for the backup is database and backup software dependent and since we don´t know, which database and what software you use, we can´t help you.

And: URGENT calls should be handled using OSS (or a local consultant).

hi thankx markus for quick replay,

we are having RHEL 5, oracle 10g ECC 6 SR2.extrenal USB disk capacity is 250 GB

Gopal,

You need to know what is your usd disk device file when it is connected to your linux box. You can find that out from /var/log/messages when you are connected

then mount the devcive file for instance you have found out that the device file for your usb disk is /dev/sda1 then mount that to any unused directory. If you are unsure which directory to use create a new one.. here is the typical steps

mkdir /mnt/mypendrive

mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/mypendrive

If there is no error then you may copy anything in you linux box to the pendrive. For example I want to copy my /usr/mydata

cp -r /usr/mydata /mnt/pendrive
