raghu
Hi Raghu,
What is alert managment ?
Actually i too had posted the same question a couple of days back ......Actually the purpose of ALERT -MANAGEMENT ie(ALM) comes in to picture when bussiness-critical problems occur. within ALM.
Alert mangement helps prevent delays in the processing of critical situations .
Alert management is the ideal solution if you can identify specific bussiness or technical sitution that are critical and could jeopardize efficent operation and you want specific parties to be informed if this situations Arise .
this is just an defination and purpose of the Alert mangement if u want some detail information just goto
https://help.sap.com and in search type option give as ALERT MANGEMENT then u can see many things regarding that ...........hope this may have helped

Hi,
Alerting is an function of Runtime Workbench along with Message archiving,End-to-end monitoring, Performance Monitoring,Cache monitoring.
Alerting is no longer dependent on the configuration and activation of end-to-end
monitoring. Consequently, the delay between when an error occurs in message
processing and the creation of an alert is significantly reduced. Furthermore, you no
longer need to schedule the report SXMSALERT_PROCESS_DATA_GET as a
background job.The Runtime Workbench has CCMS Alert Monitor thru which
You can now configure one new CCMS Alert Monitor per Adapter Engine for
adapter-specific processing errors.Alerts triggered by the Runtime Workbench can now be forwarded to the CCMS Alert
Monitor and displayed there.
See also SAP Note 824039.
Thru Runtime Workbench we can access alert inbox, alert configuration
In process Integration with Central SAP Monitoring Infrastructure we Drill down to individual process steps and Use SAP Web AS Alert Framework.
In SAP Web AS Alert Framework, we Classify errors and Alert channels (such as e-mail) available.

Hi,
You would have to configure the Alert category for each interface and also can be configured certain recipient based on the sender and receiver service and interface also.
To do this first you would have to create the alerts in SAP Alert managment with ALRTCATDEF,and add the recipients in list , also give the email ids in su01, and respective confi in SCOT.And service ,interfaces and can config in RWB.
For configuring alerts u need follwing roles first for defining or creating alertcategory
the roles reuired to access the RWB are:
1. SAP_XI_RWB_SERV_USER
2. SAP_XI_RWB_SERV_USER_MAIN
The roles for the Alert Management are:
1. SAP_ALM_ADMINISTRATOR
2. SAP_ALM_CUSTOMIZER
3. SAP_BC_ALM_ALERT_USER
Once this is done
alert category is defined and then tested

Hi,
Purpose of ALM:
Alert Management (ALM) comes into play, when business-critical problems occur. Within ALM, conditions for critical situations are predefined. When an alert is triggered in ALM that meets these conditions, responsible or interested parties are determined and informed immediately. Examples of critical situations might be an important customer terminating a contract or a budget being exceeded.
The alerts are polled from the UWL of the Enterprise Portal, application-specific display programs, or the alert inbox. These display programs can be personalized due to the users needs. In addition, the users can receive alerts as e-mail, SMS, and fax, if these external methods of communication are configured in SAPconnect. End users can personalize their alert notifications, for example, create notification variants or determine a substitute.
Alert Management helps prevent delays in the processing of critical situations, because the time between discovering and responding to such situations is reduced considerably.
Use:
Alerts within XI give us a simple way to monitor only those errors that we want to and send alert messages to different people depending on the alert category.
Alert configuration is used to have the system inform you of errors during message processing.
By using the Alert Framework, central monitoring can be provided with all errors reported during message processing in ABAP and Java. This enables an improved reaction to such errors in both the ABAP runtime and the Java-based Adapter Engine. For this purpose, the Alert Framework is provided with rules based on certain events and on information from the header of the message protocol. These rules determine whether alerts are send or not.

Configuration steps are: go to transaction ALRTCATDEF
1) Define Alert Category
2) Create container elements which are used for holding an error messages.
3) Recipient Determination.
Alert can be triggered in different ways.
1) Triggering by Calling a Function Module Directly.
/people/bhavesh.kantilal/blog/2006/07/25/triggering-xi-alerts-from-a-user-defined-function
2) Triggering by Calling a Function Module in the Workplace Plug-In.
3) Triggering with an Event Linkage.
4) Triggering with the Post Processing Framework (PPF) or Message Control (MC)
5) Triggering from a Workflow.
6) Triggering from CCMS with autoreaction.
7) Triggering from BPM.
