hi nag,

just to add, say for example a pharma company is there doing business in two distribution channels

1) Institutional (corp. hospitals)

2) Wholesale (distributors, dealers etc)

and there are 4 or 5 divisions like,

1)cardio

2)Paediatric

3)Dermatology

4)General

5)Gynaec

and one sales org. Now there would be

125 = 10 sales areas. But a dealer can do business in both distribution channels and for all the divsions, without common division and common distribution channel he has to be created in 10 sales areas. But now with VOR1 and VOR2 we just create him in one sales area and he available across all the remaining.

hope it helps.

regards

Dear nag

Common Distribution Channel and Common Division are maintained so that if any master data like customer or material maintained with respect to one distribution channel can be used in other DC. It prevents the multiplication of master records.

Eg: A customer is created for say sales area 1000/20/00 then the same customer can be used in sales area 1000/30/00 if we maintain 20 as common distribution channel. Hence no need for extending the customers...the same for materials also.

thanks

Dear nag

Let us assume you are supplying to a customer who is an OE customer as well they are catering to retail markets. In this case, instead of creating different sales area for this customer, you can have a common sales area.

thanks
