Installation of ECC 6.0

We are in the process of installation of SAP ECC 6.0 system. OS: RHEL5, DB : MaxDB. Solution Manager is already present in the physical server.

We are installaing ECC as a second instance on our physical server.

While installing ECC sapinst is not asking for MaxDb installation directory.

Where will the database software for Maxdb will be installed?

Also it is not asking for if Database should be MCOD or not.

The installation uses /sapdb as default directory. If you give another instance name during the installation and thus another database name, sapinst should detect, that the software is already installed and just "add" another database.

However, I would not put SolMan + ERP on one system, administrative nightmare

During our instllation of of SolMan we have given Maxdb Installation directory as /sapdbI40

During installation it created a directory /sapdb and linked it to /sapdbI40

Now I want my Maxdb instance to be installed on /sapdb D11 directory

How should i Proceede?

It's not possible to have two completely separated database installation directories (in Oracle terms: two ORACLE_HOMEs).

MaxDB uses files on different directories, not everything is stored under /sapdb* (mainly /usr/spool/sql and /etc/opt/sdb)

But that does not change the fact, that the system had not been installed as recommended.
