Dear Friends,
I am a SAP SD functional consultant and would like to learn SAP MDM and then appear for SAP MDM certification. Would like to know what are the basic things should I learn before going to start SAP MDM learning as i am non technical guy.
Should I learn ABAP, BASIS or XI first or anything else?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Vishal,
There is no prerequisite to learn MDM.
Anyway you are functional consultant you know the business very well compared to other technical guys.
you may have good idea about the business of customers and business partners.
some idea about IDOCs is necessary and you need data modelling skills. i.e you need to understand the source system data and then you need to model the same in target system(means MDM).
I hope this may helps you.

RDN Prasad.

Hi Vishal,
https://help.sap.com is the best site to get idea about MDM
http://sdn.sap.com under information management --> MDM
is another best site to get stuff about MDM IT scenarios and business scenarios.
you can get many blogs against topics.
service market place is another place to get Component related reference guides and IT scenarios process guides.
i.e. http://service.sap.com/installmdm.
adding to this, you can get SAP predelivered Business content and download the MDM software also.
I don't want to mention the links here, because many experts posted these blogs and available in this forum also.
I hope it may helps you.

RDN Prasad.
hi vishal,
As a functional consultant, strightaway you can start learning MDM.
in the preparation of datamodel design, according to client business process we have to design. To analyze the business process and requirements, you should have functional experience.
if you have ABAP knowledge and XI knowledge, it will helps alot. Basis is not required.
R/3 --> XI --> MDM scenario.
Mdm understands XML formats only. from R/3 we will send the master data in IDOC format. XI will convert IDOC messages to XML messages, we will import these XML messages to MDM server through import manager.
hope this may help you,
Regards,
Srinivas
