Hi Basis Experts,
My environment is 45B.
I have 2 apps servers of different machine model, build and processing capacity.
These 2 Apps are assigned to 1 logon group. The distribution is very uneven. Can this be tweaked to make it more even? The bigger machine is being assigned by message server more logons. But the slower machine has plenty more dialogs un-utilised due to this distribution.
Also, could you advise how does a message server work and how it should be assigned, to which host in the load balance cluster? Does it assign the logons to servers or Dispatcher does it? Seems like the message server assignment changes throughout the day.
Thanks in advance.

Mirella Russo

Hi,Mirella Russo:
You means that you want the weaker application server to deal with more user's requests.
The fact is that more free work processes of the weaker application server is not equal to more system resource of it.
So I think it is no useful for you to adjust the weaker application to deal with more user's request.

Hi Jack Chen,
I tweaked the loadbalancing to have more users in the weaker apps server and seems that the load is now more balanced in terms of number of users per apps.
As its not yet month end, I am not sure if this actually is working.
Could you share with me your rationale for suggesting that adjusting the weaker apps with more users will not improve performance. Thanks.
Regards,
Mirella
Hi,all:
Here is the detailed processes in load balancing.(WEB AS ABAP) It is called Logon Group in WEB AS ABAP.
Message server collects system resource of all the instances every five minute.
User's request will be first sent to the message server.
Message server then select one instance(also is named application server) with the best performance.
The dispatcher of the application server then select one free work process to deal with the request.

Dear Chen Lei,
Excellent reply. Points set.
What happens if my 2 apps servers are different power? The weaker one has the same number of dialogs. Load balancing never seem to be able to make use of the unused dialogs in the weaker server while the stronger machine gets used almost all its dialogs. If I set the load balancing threhold for the stronger apps to lower response time, and/or less users, will this encourage the message server to dispatch more processes to run on the weaker server? Pls advice.
Regards,
Mirella
