Length of Material Number

Dear All,

I have a requirement where in the length of Material Number(Character Length) has to be more than 18 character.

As of now the length of the material number (MATNR) is 18.

We are using ECC 6.0.

Kindly let me know is there any way (Like User Exit, BADI or SAP NOTE) to increase the length (character length) of the Material Number (MATNR) to more than 18 character..

I dont think this is possible even through some User Exit / BADI
