Hi,

Adapters are used to convert the Sender Application Data Format into XML and Vice versa.this has to be needed because XI can understand only XML language.

This will be possible by the help of adapters.

Sender Adapter will take the sender application format into XML and procees it in XI then Again the receiver adapter will comvert that xml into Receiver application format

List of adapters used in XI are.

1) file

2) Idoc

3)RFC

4)HTTP

5)SOAP

6)Mail

To view the list of Adapters those are installed in your XI server

Goto Runtime Workbench-Component monitoring-Click on display--Select Adapter Engine-Display List of adapters

Here u will be able to see all the adapters

XI understands only the XML language, for converting the source message to XML we can use the Adapters, and after processing the message in the XI again it converts that message to their own format here also Adapters used.

We have different types of adapters are there for converting the different types of messages to XML and vice versa.

1. File -

>For files

2. JDBC----

> For converting the data came from Database and veice versa.

3. XI -

> If we concern security then we use XI adapter at proxy to file scenario and vice versa.

4. HTTP -

> For taking the request from any type of message(req from java or .NET or..............) and vice versa

5. IDOC----

> For taking the data from SAP IDoc and vice versa.

6. JMS----

> For taking the data from java mail and vice versa

7. RFC----

> For calling the SAP Function module from remote.

8. SOAP----

> For web servicess

9. Mail -

> For sending and receiving the mails

10. BC

11. CIDX

12. Market place

13. RNIF

14. RNIF11

15. Test

16. Test_amt

Hi,

Generally, adapters are used to translate message format from sender to XI message format and vice versa and can also be a called as a communication protocol between sender/receiver and SAP XI.
