Is it possible to have different number of posting period within the same FY variant? For example, some years have 52 weeks and other years only have 52 weeks. How can this be managed within the same FY Variant.

You can create Year Dependent Fiscal Year variants. By flagging the fiscal year variant as year dependent, you can then build as many periods as you like year by year. So, a bit of maintenance, but this ability to have different posting periods year to year is the logic behind having year dependent fiscal year variants.
