Portal and MDM - Guidance sought

Hello,

I've been working as a Portal Developer for quite some time and have most of my experience in Front end technologies i.e. BSP, ITS and Portals but I've worked in ABAP and am certified in Java as well.

I want to add one more expertise to my skills NOT on front end development. One of my friends suggested to go for MDM. I've been hearing that MDM is in good demand now but I need some more information to make a decision. My questions are:

1. Is it a good decision to add MDM skills to my existing ones. More specifically, is MDM and Portal combination a good one?

2. Do I need some learning before going for the MDM100 course?

3. Is MDM here to stay for long time - I know this is very open question but some pointers would be helpful.

Please try to spare some time to answer my queries.

Hi Vishwas,

To answer your questions.

1. Is it a good decision to add MDM skills to my existing ones. More specifically, is MDM and Portal combination a good one?

- Adding MDM to your skill list will be an easy and useful one,As You have a good knowledge on Front end systems and MDM is been used as a Backend system this integration will be a hot requirement besides you also have a fair knowledge of Java which will be needed when integrating portal to mDM in the form of Java apis.

2. Do I need some learning before going for the MDM100 course?

-You do not need any pre-requisite to learn MDM as it is a Configuration driven tool.A good understanding of master data and the problems with it can help.

3. Is MDM here to stay for long time - I know this is very open question but some pointers would be helpful.

- MDM is a new technology and it is rapidly developing.As it is an SAP product i feel it will pick speed fast and now that everything is moving to ESOA, MDM will be the heart of it.
