Dear Varada,

U can use same item catagory for different Order / document type.

It is also applicable for schedule line categories.

hello again, friend.

well, it's like this....

let's say you have material number 1000x1. you want it to behave in a standard way when you process it in a standard order, rush order and cash order. maybe you can make assignments so that all these document types will propose item category TAN when it sees your material..

however, you want 1000x1 to behave differently when you process it in special document type ZA01. then maybe you can make assignments to this document type so that the system proposes ZTAN when it processes your material.

schedule line assignment would more or less be the same.

the bottomline is, what the do you want (i.e. billing relevance, picking relevance, pricing relevance, etc.) with a particular type of document?

hope this gave you a more general idea.

regards.

Hi,

To add above replies,SAP system has given predefined item categories. You can customize and rename it.

Item categories are defined to provide additional control functions for the sales documents and thus meet the demands resulting from different business transactions. A separate control is defined for each of these item categories. For example, the functions of a standard item are completely different from those of a free-of-charge item or a text item

Item catgegories

AFN,AGN,TAN -standard item categories

AFNN,AGNN,TANN - Free of charge item categories

AFX,AGX,TAX - Non stock items

AFTx,AGTX,TATX - Text items

Contract - WKN

Depending on S.Doc types, different item categories allowed. The item categories can also be adapted using control elements to meet the special requirements of your installation. You can modify the existing item categories or you can create your own.The concerned person is responsible for maintaining the control elements.

In your case you have to decide how item categories can control business transaction in Sales documents of Plant order, depot sales etc...

Schedule Line categories:

Same is true for schedule line categories.SAP System has predefined S.Line categories.

AT- Inquiry

BN- Quotation

CP- Order

DN- return etc..

The first character indicates the sales process in which the schedule line cat is used.

A-Inquiry,B- Quotation,C- order, D- returns etc..

The second letter is the key indicates what happens to the schedule line within the logistics.

T-No inventory management

X-No inventory managment with goods issue

N-No materials planning

P- MRP

V-Consumption based planning.

Hope this helps to you.

Thanks,

hello, friend.

you are right. item category determination is influenced by sales document type. to be exact, item category is determined when the system sees the combination of:

sales document type + item category group (assigned in material master) + item usage + higher level item (as in BOM).

when you define your own sales document type by copying standard document types, normally the item category determination and assignments are copied as well. but you can check them just the same in IMG > SD > Sales > Sales Document > Sales Document Items.

on the other hand, schedule lines are determined in the sales document when the system sees the combination of:

MRP type (assigned in material master) + item category (as determined in the document)

Dear varada rajan

You can very well maintain the same item category and schedule line cateogy be it domestic sales or export sales.

Item category will differ only if your process warrants so as to maintain pricing at component level and to be exploded in sale order and billing.

thanks
