Hi Guys

I can see that in IMG under definition - Logistic general we can define the Location. What is the importance of location.

Secondly why does a plant need to be assigned to Sales Organization and Distribution Channel.

Thanks in advance

Hi Srikkanth,

IMG - Enterprise structure - definition - Logistics general - define location.

In this step you define locations within a plant.

A location allows a plant to be classified according to spatial or situation criteria.

The following master data objects can be assigned to these locations:

1. Asset master records of Asset Management

2. pieces of equipment

3. functional locations

4. work centers

5. production resources/tools

As far as assignment is concerned it is done so that the assignments are then automatically proposed as defaults for maintenance. If assignment is not done then you will face the problem as under:

1. When you create a material in MM01 at that time in the "organization levels" you specify the sales organization as well as the distribution channel. When you reach the "Sales:Sales Org.1" screen & try to enter the plant the system will pop up the following error:

"The plant XYZ does not exist for sales organization XYZ / distr. channel XY"

If at all you save the material master without entering the plant then you can save the master.

2. But now if you try to create a sales order for the material then the system will not show the plant at the line item level. Here if you try to enter the plant manually then you will get the following error:

"Sales from sales organization, XYZ dist. chan.XY, plant XYZ are not defined". It will further display "Plant XYZ is not assigned to the sales area selected".

So we assign the plant to the combination of Sales Organization & Distribution Channel to make the system know that when the sales is carried out from a particular sales area which plant supplies the material.

Hopw this clarifies your doubt. Reward points if solution helps.

hello, friend

1. The 'Location' you saw can be defined as...

Location

You can use the location to set up a plant according to space and local area. You can assign an address to a location.

The following master data objects can be referenced to a location:

Asset master records of asset management

Equipment

Functional location

Work center

Production resource/tool

however, this Location is of no immediate interest to SD.

2. you assign the sales organization - distribution channel to the plant to allow sales transactions for materials that have been extended for the plant. with this assignment, you can set up different sales conditions for the materials depending on the combination of sales organization, distribution and plant.

regards.

Hi Srikanth,

1.Use of Location

Define locations means define the different areas within a plant.

A location allows a plant to be classified according to spatial or situation criteria.

The following master data objects can be assigned to these locations:

Asset master records of Asset Management

pieces of equipment

functional locations

work centers

production resources/tools

Locations are used for informative assignment only. We can only use locations to structure a matchcode or as parameter criteria in reporting.

We cannot derive any functionality from locations in terms of hierarchies, etc.

Example:- If we use Asset Management in our system, we can assign each fixed asset to one of these locations.

Since plant maintenance usually structures assets more precisely than Asset Accounting, no check is made to establish whether the asset location and the location of the PM object that indicates this asset via the asset number, are the same.

We can also assign a location to each work center by maintaining the work centers. Here too, the work center location and the location of the PM object are to be regarded as separate.

2.To carry out the sales activity from that perticuler plant to that perticuler sales organisation and through that perticuler distribution channel.

I hope it will make you clear

Murali.

Dear Friend ,

The location is the storage location of the palant where you store the material in the plant.Based on which the goods movement takes place..

read the SAP IMG .com site for more information.

A plant is a place where the product is buit made procured. It has to be ditributed to the customer in proper channel..

The sales organization disttibution and div defines the sales area........which is assigned to the plant for its operation ...meaning distributuion ,procurement and what ever transaction.

for these basic questions please refere to the SAP.img.com

HI,

Location r u talking about storage location?

Assign sales organization - distribution channel - plant

Use this step to assign any number of plants to a combination of sales organization and distribution channel. A plant can be assigned more than once.

Requirements

You define the combination of sales organizations and distribution channels in IMG activity "Assign distribution channels - sales organizations". These combinations are then automatically proposed as defaults for maintenance.

Actions

Assign the plants to the combination of sales organization/distribution channel.

Thanks & Regards
