Dear all,

We designed system such a way that not to save sales order with out weight.

If we don't maintain weight in article master data, or in Sales Order, we don't know where all it effects the process.

We are following transportation planning scenario for our outbound delivery process.

Warehouse management is being used for picking process.

we don't have any export sales in our business process.

I would like to know if we don't maintain weight in article or sales order, does it effects any where in the standard sales order process, outbound delivery, picking, packing, loading, transportation planning and post goods issue processes.

please educate me to get better understanding of process. Your help will be highly appreciated.

Thank you

HI raghu,

The weight may not be playing an important part in sales order.

But it plays a very important part from delivery onwards.

The actual weight as in gross or net and how calculate these will start from delivery. So your weight could be coming from material master or from batch. If its a BOM material then the combined weight should come or each component should show its own weight.

Then a lot of time packing material needs to be added in the Delivery. So weight needs to be recalculated.

The weight is used a lot for transport management. The total weight in shipment will be used fro determining the size and speciifications of truck or other shipment mode. Weight will also be a major criteria in determing the freight cost.

Then in outputs, for pick list, pack list, customs invoice, Bill of lading, Manfiest, all these documents very muhc require weight to be displayed in the item line.

Hence for configuration purposes, you will have to check where exactly you are doing weight determination and where it all needs to be displayed. Say for example the weight determination is simple and comes from material master only and you need to display the correct weight in order acknowledgment, then you will have to esnure that weighta is there in the delivery.

But lets say, your weight needs to be determined by the batch at the time of delivery creation and you need not print weight in order acknowledgement, then you can configure the sales order incompletion without weight. You have to just ensure that delivery is with weight.

I hope this helps.

regards,

Abhishek
