Hi SD gurus,
Can anyone tell me....what is a Shipping Type?? And what is its significance in SD configurations. and where do we configure this?
I have idea about shipping point, shipping condition...but do not know about Shipping Type.
Looking to hear.
Gaurav
Dear friend,
In this activity, you define the shipping types in combination with the
mode of transport. The shipping types can include the following:
o Truck
o Truck with trailer
o Plane
o Ship
Activities
1. Define the shipping types. Enter an alphanumeric key of maximum two
digits as well as a text description.
2. Assign one or several modes of transport to each shipping type.
3. Assign the shipping types to a shipping type group, which serves to
determine the pricing procedure for calculating the shipping costs.
This closely used in the transportation and the shipment module for the route determination as well .
Go to the shipping and the transportation module in the logistics execution you will get to know the idea behind the same.

hi
The shipment type contains all the important control features for a shipment, such as the number range, whether the shipment is inbound or outbound, how leg determination is performed, and which leg indicator has been set for a shipment of this type. You can also enter a selection variant for the shipment type. The values defined in the variant appear on the selection screen when you create a shipment document of this type.
The system supports the following shipment types:
Individual shipment
One or more deliveries
One point of departure
One destination
One mode of transport
Collective shipment
One or more deliveries
Several points of departure
Several destinations
One mode of transport
Transportation chain
A transportation chain is useful if you are dealing with deliveries that will be transported using multiple modes of transportation (and are thus processed by different departments at the transportation planning point).
