Dear ajit

Advanced Planner and Optimizer (APO) is used for implementing SAP's Supply Chain Planning solution, which offers planning functionality and seamless integration with SAP R/3 and Legacy ERP systems.

hi,

You create a sales order in R/3 and in APO you carry out product allocations as an application of the check against plans. Product allocations is a basic method of the global availability check. The availability check and product allocation cannot be carried out separately (in APO and in an OLTP system); they must be carried out in APO.

Product allocation only functions for APO relevant materials. APO relevance does not mean that the material must be planned in APO. If material is flagged as APO-relevant via the CIF integration model the advanced functionality of product allocation can be used.

Hi Ajit,

Advanced Planner and Optimizer (APO) is a set of software applications from the German-based software company SAP for supply chain management. According to SAP literature, Advanced Planner and Optimizer is designed to help a company improve production planning, pricing, scheduling, and product shipping. APO works by getting real-time updates from retailers about customer demand. The updates are used to create APO "demand triggers" that take into account many complex variables, such as the delivery schedule of raw materials and productions cycles, to forecast the right amount of product mix the company will need to meet future customer demands. APO can be integrated with the SAP R/3 and legacy enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

APO consists of eight application levels: network design, demand planning, supply network planning, production planning and detailed scheduling, global availability, transportation planning and vehicle scheduling, and supply chain collaboration.

As APO is playing a major part in Supply Chaim Management which in turn, also relates to sales, to some extent, you should be aware of this APO function.

The Supply Network Planning (SNP) Benchmark is one of three benchmarks in the SAP APO Benchmark suite. SAP APO enables organizations to create a very close match between supply and demand by integrating purchasing, manufacturing, distribution, and transportation into one consistent model. By modeling the entire supply network and related constraints, SAP APO is able to synchronize activities and plan material flow throughout the entire supply chain. The results are feasible plans for purchasing, manufacturing, inventory, and transportation.

SAP APO also includes functionality to enable organizations to dynamically determine how and when inventory should be distributed. The system draws on the data universally available in liveCache to optimize deployment plans based on available algorithms, as well as user rules and policies. In the benchmark, we use mass processing, which allows you to run the heuristic planning for large numbers of product-location combinations, with mass processing jobs running concurrently in the background.

And as you know SAP SD I think if you are more towards logistics better to go for APO. And It will not be much benificial for SD however it will add value to your profile. So just taste your interest if it says yes then you can go for that.
