am i right in assuming that the problem with startup is with the license file/key not installed for the test drive?

The problem seems to be that the x_server can´t be started because another service is running on the same port.

Do you have other MaxDB installations on the system?

Many Thanks !had a previous install of Testdrive N4s on the same machine/h/w , but later i wiped out my Linux install and reinstalled Linux on top of which i reinstalled SAP N4S.

Is there a way to remove / check for the previous traces ?

how can i get my current install working from here ?

Cheers

Try to check what is listening on the ports:

lsof -i :7210

This will show you the program name which uses the x_server port.

Mant Thanks!lsof -i :7210 returns nothing .....but lsof -i shows something which you can help me with ...

i just a entry for niserver in this list

*niserver 21931 sdb 5u IPv4 135103 TCP :sapdbni72 (LISTEN)

is this indicative of anything in relation to my problem? how can this be rectified/fixed ?

Kill that process with

kill -TERM 21931

Then the installation should proceed correctly.

Went ahead and killed the process with the PID and tried restarting the db, but failed again...but with a different message this time...

The nilicnese problem is not serious, it doesn´t matter in that case.

Try to logon as ns4adm and do

x_server start

then try again.

Yes - open them (knldiag) using e. g. "vi" and search for "current" - then scroll up and see if you can detect something weird.

these are some of the parts of both the files which i thought might have some warning message. If you require i can cat the entire file and paste it out here.have these files been written after i tried starting the db now today but why are they having old timestamps in them ??

Thanks

The problem seems to be, that the database can't find its log volume on the configured place and thus failing to start.

Did you delete something?

Definitely not ...is there any alternative to reinstalling the test drive ?? how can this be fixed ? if you could let me know any particular install log location i can check that for something specific.

Thanks

I had the same problem! I don't know how, but in my /etc/hosts I found a completely wrong IP-Address associated to the host name n4shost.

After I corrected /etc/hosts x_server was reachable again.
