Is BI/BW basis different from the regular basis?

Hello Jennifer,

BW/BI basis and normal basis are not really different with the obvious minor difference being the BI basis is more BI oriented. BI has its own nitty gritties that a BI Basis consultant would have to take care. Otherwise the rest remains the same.

Hello Jennifer,

BW as you must be knowing is Business Warehousing system which extracts data from a repositrory system which in several cases would be an SAP R/3 or ERP system. Now a BW Basis consultant ( i will call it BWBC) needs to work on establishing the connection between the 2 systems and in case of BW there is much more beyond just establishing RFC connections. Certain BW speciific transactions need to be maintained. Also in BW the Security Adminsitration vis-a-vis user authorizations is bit different from standard SAP concept. In BW a lot of focus is on structural authorizations. Then BW admin plays a veray critical load when extraction is being done into a BW system.

If you see all these activties look the acts of normal basis guy but have BW flavour in them.

Hi,

For BW you also need to do a lot of database optimization, tuning and administration.

There is also a lot of technical support to ensure the quality of cubes design.
