in the enterprise structure in define and assign you can see the definition and assignment of warehouse.

A storage type is a storage area, warehouse facility, or a warehouse zone that you define in Warehouse Management (WM) for a warehouse number. This is a physical or logical subdivision of a warehouse complex that is characterized by its warehouse technique, the space used, its organizational form, or its function. A storage type consists of one or several storage bins.

A storage type generally contains several storage spaces or slots. These are called storage bins in Warehouse Management (WM). The storage bin is the smallest available unit of space in a warehouse. The storage bin therefore describes the position in the warehouse where the goods are or can be stored.

Since the address of a storage bin is frequently derived from a coordinate system, a storage bin is often referred to as a coordinate. The coordinate 01-02-03 for example, can refer to a storage bin in row 1, stack 2, and level 3.

hi,

The SAP Warehouse Management system (WMS) provides flexible, automated support in processing all goods movements and in managing stocks in your warehouse complex. The system supports scheduled and efficient processing of all logistics processes within your warehouse.

If you are not using the Warehouse Management System, the storage location is the lowest level of inventory management in the system. In the Inventory Management (IM) component, the storage location is defined as the location of physical stock in a plant. In this case, storage locations make up the various warehouse facilities (or areas) of a warehousing complex (for example, high rack storage, picking area or bulk storage). However, you can only manage material stock in a fixed bin warehouse. Random storage is not possible. This type of fixed bin is different from a WMS storage bin in that it is entered into the material master record at the storage location level.

If you are using Inventory Management without WMS, you can assign one or several physical storage locations to each plant.

Dear Srikkanth

In simple terminology, you can have any number of storage locations in one warehouse but not vice versa.

To explain a little bit, you are stocking many goods in a place which is called warehouse. In that warehouse, You can define material wise storage location for easy traceability.

Thanks

Hi Srikanth,

A plant is divided into several storage locations. A storage location is the place where stock is physically kept within a plant.

on the other hand,

A warehouse management system is defined only when you have complex logistics scenarios in your business.

A combination of plant and storage locations are assiged to a warehouse number.

SAP System can recognize which storage locations in Materials Management are controlled by the Warehouse Management system (LE-WM), you must assign the plants and the storage location to the warehouse number.

Within a plant it is possible to assign several storage locations to the same warehouse number

A storage location has the following attributes:

• There may be one or more storage locations within a plant.

• A storage location has a description and at least one address.

• It is possible to store material data specific to a storage location.

• Stocks are managed only on a quantity basis and not on a value basis at storage location level.

• Physical inventories are carried out at storage location level.

• A storage location can be assigned to a warehouse number in the Warehouse Management System . You can assign more than one storage location to the same warehouse number within a plant.

• Storage locations are always created for a plant.

A warehouse complex is represented in the Warehouse Management system as a warehouse number that is used to identify a complex warehouse setup. The physical location is usually decisive for assigning the definition of the warehouse number. A warehouse number groups together storage types and storage bins that are organized and maintained as a complete unit.

All warehouse procedures, such as stock placements and stock removals of materials, are always executed within a warehouse number.

A warehouse number has the following characteristics:

• A warehouse number does not have an address, but a short descriptive text.

• It is possible to store material data that is specific to a warehouse number.

• Within each warehouse number, the stock figures are managed as quantities, not as values.

• Within a plant it is not possible to assign several storage locations to the same warehouse number.
