What is Element Type ID?

hi,

In Integration Repository, when we import a software component version from system landscape, Element Type ID for MyWebApp specific Software Component Versions is 0 whereas for most of other Software Component Versions from other vendors have Element Type ID not eqaul to 0. Why is it so? How is it important as I am able to run my configured integration scenario without setting it some non-zero value.
