When I fire up my SAP Management Console (mmc plugin), I can see my locally installed instance for starting and stopping. Can I use the plugin to manage a remote machine?
Thanks!
that will be in the instance profile. Its also in the start up logs and the developer traces. Login to SAP on the machine in question and you should find it in system -> status. The instance number may also be in the SAPLOGON.INI file.

This machine isn't running R/3, it is only running the Java application server. There is no System > Status which I can find.
When I open the SAPMMC on my local machine, it has the tree:
Console Root
SAP Systems
J2E
bknitter-dt
bknitter-dt 1
bknitter-dt 0
I'm assuming in my case, if someone were to manage this remotely, they would simply put in "bknitter-dt 00" and "bknitter-dt 01" ??
Thanks for the confirmation!

Okay, I found this:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/7a/d7fc377cb5be5ae10000009b38f842/frameset.htm
But how do I find the instance number of the app server on the remote machine?
Thanks,
bk
