Hi,

Could any one can give me a actual view of the following:

(1). What Runtime is doing and in what ways: the complete view: step by step view for beginner.

(2). What adapters are doing and what are the various steps for every adapter type: the complete view.

Which adapter is most useful. and what exercises should i do to practice them.

Thanks in Advance,

Indu.

Hi,

SXMB_MONI & RWB monitoring, this will help you step by step solution with screen shots.

You can use the Runtime Workbench tool for XI monitoring.

The Runtime Workbench gives you the option of navigating to the monitoring functions of the Integration Engine, as well as integration with the Computing Center Management System (CCMS), and the Process Monitoring Infrastructure (PMI) of SAP.

XI monitoring contains the following options:

1. Component monitoring

2. Message monitoring

3. End-to-end monitoring

4. Performance monitoring

5. Index administration

6. Alert configuration

7. Cache monitoring

1) Component Monitoring:

We use component monitoring in the following cases:

To get an overview of the status of the individual components of SAP Exchange Infrastructure (XI).

To call the configuration data of individual XI components

To use test messages to check whether the XI runtime is functioning correctly

To test whether cache connectivity is functioning correctly

To archive the message security settings or whole messages

To check the status of your communication channels or the adapters configured in them

To display current technical data for your Adapter Engine

2) Message Monitoring

We use message monitoring in the following cases:

To track the status of messages.

To find errors that have occurred.

3) Performance Monitoring:

We use performance monitoring to display statistical data on the performance of message processing. The data comes from the Integration Server (IS) or the Process Monitoring Infrastructure (PMI).

Use performance monitoring to display the following data:

Aggregated overview data for message processing

Individual overview data for message processing

Aggregated detailed data for message processing performance

Individual detailed data for message processing performance

Use selection criteria to restrict the data that is displayed. For example, you can restrict the data to:

The data source

A specific component

A message processing mode

A specific time interval

4) Alert Configuration:

You use the alert configuration to have the system inform you of errors during message processing. You can receive the alert by e-mail, fax, or SMS. In each case you will also find the alert in your alert inbox.

5) Cache monitoring displays objects that are currently in the runtime cache of either of the following receivers (cache instances) of cache data:

Integration Server (Java)

Integration Server (ABAP)

Adapter Engine (central or non-central)

6) End-to-End Monitoring

You use end-to-end monitoring in the following cases:

If you want to monitor message processing steps in a number of SAP components (to be configured).

If you want to monitor the path of individual messages through these SAP components, from start to end.

The central tool for end-to-end monitoring is the Runtime Workbench, which you call from the SAP Exchange Infrastructure (XI) start page.

The Runtime Workbench receives the data for end-to-end monitoring from the Process Monitoring Infrastructure (PMI), which is an SAP monitoring tool for monitoring end-to-end technical processes involving multiple SAP components.

For Adapters this is the best link to know.

The selection of adapter is totaly dependen upon requirement, you can not say so and so adapter is very useful..

Hi Indu,

(1). What Runtime is doing and in what ways: the complete view: step by step view for beginner.

---> Central tool in SAP Exchange Infrastructure for monitoring and testing the individual components and for monitoring message processing and performance.

The central monitoring of SAP Exchange Infrastructure (XI) offers you the option of executing various monitoring activities. Primarily, you use the Runtime Workbench, the central tool for accessing XI monitoring.

The Runtime Workbench gives you the option of navigating to the monitoring functions of the Integration Engine, as well as integration with the Computing Center Management System (CCMS), and the Process Monitoring Infrastructure (PMI) of SAP.

Both RWB and Sxmb_moni are both used for monitoring purpose only...where as when take Runtime workbench you can have different options which xi provides...like component monitoring,Performance monitoring,End to End monitoring, message monitoring...etc..but where as in sxmb_moni you can able to see the xml messages only.

RWB enables a central monitoring of the XI server which has multiple features which SXMB_MONI tcode doesnt provide - http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/7c/14b5765255e345a9e3f044f1e9bbbf/content.htm

(2). What adapters are doing and what are the various steps for every adapter type: the complete view.

Which adapter is most useful. and what exercises should i do to practice them.

---> Adapters enable the Integration Engine and the Partner Connectivity Kit (PCK) to communicate with different applications.

Adapters connect the Integration Engine to SAP legacy systems, as well as to external systems.

In this way, adapters integrate existing SAP components with SAP Exchange Infrastructure, for example. In the process, XML and HTTP-based documents are converted to IDocs (IDoc adapter) and RFCs (RFC adapter) and the other way around. This enables you to integrate your existing SAP infrastructure with the new SAP infrastructure, which is based on system integration and the exchange of XML messages.

The usage of adapters is based on the sender and receiver systems.

Please find here with you all the Adapter types and their usage as well as all confuguration level parameters
