If you login as ora<SID> - what's the output of

file /usr/sap/<SID>/exe/SAPCAR

It never asked me for the password during installation...

So now i dont know which password to use to login as orasid...

Login as root and do

su - ora<SID>

file /usr/sap/HDV/SYS/exe/run/SAPCAR

/usr/sap/HDV/SYS/exe/run/SAPCAR: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.0.0, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), not stripped

So you are trying to install a 64bit database and use a 32bit kernel?

Yes the SAP Kernel is 32 bit...

Ok - just wanted to make sure this is intention.

Can you extract the file manually? Try (again as user ora<SID>)

/usr/sap/<SID>/exe/SAPCAR -xvf /soft1/SAPSOFT/DVD_51030971/UNIX/LINUX_64/OR192064.SAR

Does that work?

I tried extracting the file and it is successfull.

Also 1 thing to be noted, the script shows the file is at /soft1/SAPSOFT/DVD_51030971/UNIX/LINUX_64/OR192064.SAR location.

But actually the file is at /soft1/SAPSOFT/DVD_51030971/ORA92_1/UNIX/LINUXX86_64/OR192064.SAR location.

Ok - then your problem is, that you downloaded the wrong Oracle software.

Indeed - LINUX_64 is meant for Linux on Itanium-2 processors - you need to download Oracle for LInux on X86_64

I tried copying the LINUXX86_64 to the the path which the script was taking and the installation went to the next step.

After going to next step it fails with error:

What do you get now when doing

file /oracle/HDV/sapreorg/install/SAPCAR

Markus

It gives me

file /oracle/HDV/sapreorg/install/SAPCAR

/oracle/HDV/sapreorg/install/SAPCAR: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.0.0, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), not stripped

If you just copied the files (which are for the wrong architecture) to the path, the system may be able to unpack, but the database will not run. you will need to download the correct database for your platform (x86_64 - NOT IA64).

The files were indeed of Linuxx86_64....from the path:

/soft1/SAPSOFT/DVD_51030971/UNIX/LINUXX86_64

But SAPCAR is not able to unpack it .

If you unpack it manually, do you get an error message?

No, no problems at all.

I tried extracting it using the same SAPCAR..from path...

/oracle/HDV/sapreorg/install/SAPCAR and it works...!

STrange... and more logs in the installation directory? a SAPCAR.log?

Markus

Nope ....no such logs...

Well.. then we just know that SAPCAR fails...

I suggest you open a call (BC-INS-UNX) and ask there what might be the problem.

Ok...I did that...

But one thing i want to point out that...when i see the DATABASE.log....i see entries like......

In the log it says that files are extracted and then it gives error....

It is confusing why it says so...!

Also, i tried removing the existing Disk1 from /oracle/stage and again started the R3SETUP...

it extracted the client in Disk1 and failed with
