WebService call from SAP outside NetWeaver

can I call a webService from SAP outside NetWeaver? E.g. to call it directly from a RFC function module or other components?

I don't understand your question.

Which SAP system of which release are you using ?

It's possible to call a web service from the abap stack beginning from WAS 6.40.
