FQHN (Fully qualified host name)

Hi all,

I'm trying to use FQHN in my PI 7.0 installation. I'm not a basis guy but I have installed a successfull instance without using FQHN before, now I want to do this again using FQHN.

I need information on this topic; such as where to set the host name to a FQHN. Is there a guide on this? Any related links and help will be very much appreciated.

Regards,

Gökhan

Hi Gökhan,

FQHN is either FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) of a host.

You can define in host file if it is not define in the domain. Then you can replace hostname with FDQN of a host in all places (eg ExchangeProfile, SLD config., etc).

The Technology Consultant's Guide for PI -> High Availability Setup in:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/43/39c7b227b91bcbe10000000a1553f7/content.htm

answers all my questions.

Actually, I do think it is related, as PI has many extensive uses of standard SAP Basis. There is no SAP note available on this issue as far as I could find. I have gone through all installation and configuration documents to do this right but again, there wasn't a specific guideline on the topic.

Anyways, thanks for your help. Hope my system works fine after all..:)

I will see if the NWA template configurator runs fine, I had errors in my last try.

Is there a guide for all of this procedure? For changing a host name to a FQHN in PI?

Doing things randomly by try/test is not a good working method I think, don't you agree?

Hi Gökhan,

I agree but changing hostname to FQHN is not really "XI related" topic.

This is nothing but the way of identifying the server, so in my opinion you need to change this wherever you have defined the hostname in XI configuration. There are certain places where you no need to specify FQHN as they are internal.

Hi again,

I have observed that my host name is used in these places:

• etc/hosts file

• Exchange Profile hostname parameters

• SLDAPICUST transaction

• RFC destinations like SAPSLDAPI, LCRSAPRFC etc

• Visual Admin: SLD Data Supplier, Destinations -> PMISTORE, JCO RFC Provider

Also, there's an icm/host_name_full parameter in RZ10, which I have changed accordingly.

I have made up a FQHN for my server, which I configured from the computer name in the Windows settings. It has a form like myhost.mydomain.com and it is not on a domain. I have a basic local installation.

In SAPInst, I entered my host name as only , as it would not let me use the form myhost.mydomain.com. Afterwards, I have changed the name in the places I have listed above.

Is this enough for SAP standards for FQHN or have I missed any steps? I really need a guide on this.

Thanks,

Gökhan

Hi,

I think you have covered almost everything. Only place that I can think of is technical system in SLD. Now try running the application using FQHN.
