Hi Suman
As a newbie to XI, the best approach to start learning XI is to first get hold of an XI system.
Assuming you have access to an XI system, the next thing which you have already done is visit sdn.sap.com and become a member here.
Understand what XI is, and for that visit the following link,
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/14/80243b4a66ae0ce10000000a11402f/frameset.htm
Once you are aware of what XI is and what it is used for, the next step is to read the following document, this document explains you a complete scenario right from scratch, one of the best documents to learn XI,
https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/documents/a1-8-4/sap netweaver in the real world part iii sap exchange infrastructure.pdf
While doing all the above you will definitely run into issues and problems, post your questions on the forum and we are there to help you out.
Once you get a hang on how to use XI, maybe you can try a scenario with XI trying to talk to BW server as well.
Happy learning.
cheers
Sameer
