Urgent help :( SAP STMS Buffer error

Former Member

ok I have a REAL issue!!! I can not do transports to my SAP PRD system. It is giving me the following error:

HOST > tp {ANY COMMAND} DEVK919999 PRD

This is tp version 340.16.37 (release 640, unicode enabled)

Warning: Parameter DBLIBPATH is no longer used.

Warning: Parameter DBSWPATH is no longer used.

Warning: unknown parameter LOGLOFETIME in parameter file (line 21).

HALT 20080124102802

ERROR: TA in buffer too long.

ERROR: EXIT(16) -> process ID is: 19551

tp returncode summary:

TOOLS: Highest return code of single steps was: 16

ERRORS: Highest tp internal error was: 0243

tp finished with return code: 243

meaning:

transport in buffer too long or unknown format detected

I searched notes and it returned note number 89625. When I walked through the note it tells me I need to edit a buffer file... but I can not determine which buffer file to edit. It also says that I need to use the sappad from Windows (which it is on a unix system). This is a brand new PRD system so I am not afraid of clearing and resetting the buffers but I get the same error when I run tp cleanbuffer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Paul

The buffer file is /usr/sap/trans/buffer/<SID>

Check the file if there are any strange characters in it.

Thanks,

Had the same issue with a strange character in my <SID> file.

THANK YOU so much. I think I had a brain crash cause I was looking in the log cirectory at the ALOG and SLOG didnt even move to teh buffer directory.

So anyways. I just renamed the buffer file and then started adding transports back to the buffer... now it works.

Thank you both for you help.

Best Regards,

Paul

Paul,

Try sorting the buffers by date and then run the newest ones using the test described in the note (tp showbuffer <file name>).

It this was supposed to go into the production system, then the name of the buffer file should be the same as the SID (i.e. 'PRD' for production and so on).

Hope that helps.
