Sales using PS

Our company supply materials to construction company. The product is make to order and periodic billing is configured as of now in SD. If a new project starts the material is dispatched in phases. Many times the project is spanned more than a year.

In order to distribute the cost over project, the Milestone billing feature would help.

But slightly confused regarding linkage of milestone billing with Project system module. Do each and every project is to be created in PS for using this functionality. Or have to configure only milestone billing in SD.

Kindly help.

What i want to ask is till now all sale activities from sale order to billing are handled thru SD module.

In case if project is mapped on PS do the whole SD cycle sale order creation, delivery & billing to be handled thru PS and how to do that. Further for short term projects have to release single bill insted of milestone. so is it possible.

Basically how one can achieve regular billing & milestone billing for sale project. Do for Milestone billing SD is to be linked to PS only or it can be done in SD module also.

Hi Anya,

The whole SD cycle cannot be done thru PS. Billing can be done only thru SD. PS can only trigger that billing thru milestone billing. Sale Order creation can be done only thru SD and not thru PS.

For Milestone billing you need to have projects. Milestones are attached only to activities in projects.

One cannot do all the processes thru PS itself.

I think it's not mandatory to use the milestone billing with PS module, you can even do the straight away in SD (but still assigned to WBS to analyse the revenues)

Advantage of milestone billing with PS module is that confirmation of milestone automatically unlocks the billing block. This happens only if you create the billing plan in order based on project milestones.

But this doesn't happen if you use SD alone which is more of a manual process.

Considers others view on this.

Hi,

Firstly be very clear about Milestone Billing. This is a way of linking Project activities with billing.

In this type of billing, milestones are attached to activities. A certain percentage of billing is mentioned in this milestone. This milestone is then called from the Sales order item. his provides a linkage between PS and Billing. When we confirm the activity(after compeltion of the activity), the dates gets transferred to the milestone and the milestone gets activated. This triggers a billing in the sales order item.
