Hi Eleana,

The concepts of port is very similar to it's terminology in business landscape where they are used for exchange of data between systems.

In MDM they are always assosiated with Remote systems .With remote systems as a foundation, an MDM port encapsulates all of the configuration and logistical information associated with inbound and outbound processing of data from these remote systems.

In so doing, it simplifies the process of: (1) delivery and consolidation of raw data from remote systems into MDM using the MDM Import Manager; and

(2) extraction and distribution of data from MDM to remote systems using the MDM Syndicator.

In each case, the port represents the logical point of contact between MDM and the outside world

_Stepwise Implementation:_

CONSOLE: After creatin any Repository go to it's admin table and click on remote system. MDM is the default but u can create ur own.A remote system type may be inbound ,Outbound , Inbound/Outbound.After its creation create ports and assosiate this ports to the remote system.A port may only be inbound or outbound.

Import Manager:

Select the data type as port .Upon it's selection it will ask for it's remote system .Give the remote system for the port as defined in the Console.U can also use maps if using a standard business content associated with this remote system.

Syndicator:

In syndiactor also give the data type as port and select the corresponding remote system and give the destination where u wnat the file to be syndicated.

Hope this will help u.

Please reward me points if u find this blog helpful.

Hi Eleana,

In Console in the Admin section -->> Remote System u should specify the system and the type, like will it be Inbound / Outbound.

Then in Ports u need to specify the port which will be in contact with the earlier specified remote system and the Map (*.map) file which it will be using.

And of course the format of the file which it will be using like XML Schema, etc.

The make sure that Import Server is in running mode.

After all these settings are done you can keep the file in the ready folder of the specified port.

Then automatically the file will be imported with all the mappings and you can see the data in Data Manager.

Hope dis helps u

Ports are designed to eliminate inbound and outbound processing complexity and the opportunity for user error by eliminating the need for users to make the following decisions:

Inbound (MDM Import Manager)

1. Select the remote system that originated the data.

2. Identify the location where source data files are waiting to be loaded.

3. Select a source data file.

4. Select the applicable MDM Import Manager map.

Outbound (MDM Syndicator)

1. Select the remote system that will receive the data.

2. Select the applicable MDM Syndicator map.

3. Identify the location where data files should be placed for

delivery.

As manual selections, any of the decisions above can result in an error, which could lead to incorrect or incomplete processing. By eliminating these manual selections, ports reduce the likelihood of errors.
