I had installed NetWeaver CE 7.1 SP1 J2EE with following error message:

Hi,
the error "db_activate failed with rc = 306" tells me that there's a problem during the initialization of the MaxDB instance.
I suggest to check the dbm.prt, knldiag and knldiag.err in the rundirectory of your MaxDB instance for errors during the db_activate command.
You can find out the location of your Rundirectory by issueing 'xinstinfo <DBSID>' from the commandline

Please check SAP note 967742: password for db user IDs (control, superdba) should not contain '@' symbol.
Also, if you have a firewall installed, please check whether ports needed to communicate with Maxdb are opened:
