ECC6 System Recovery

Dear All;

l have a question on the complete recovery for ECC6/Oracle system central Instance system.

l have a full backup (offline and online), if the current system (with ECC6/Oracle10g/Windows2003) crashed and l need to setup in another new server, how should l do?

In 4.x version, l can install the Central Instance (CI) only, then restore the source database in target server then l can connect the CI to the database.

But for ECC, in the sapinst program, for the Central Instance System installation, there is no seperate installation or CI and Database instance. So, even l have the database backup, how to l setup the SAP binaries, user ids, user environment etc? (Basically, it is like to install the CI)

The notes 659509 mentioned about the steps on how to recover the SAP4.7/Oracle system, what about ECC6? can anyone advise what is the proper procedure for the ECC6/Oracle/Windows or Unix?

Thanks

Jordan

Hi,

download the system copy guide from

service.sap.com/instguides

prepare database instance -->

install DB software,

recover DB

run sapinst ( following is for win/oracle)

SAP ERP 2005 Support Release 2 -> Additional Software Life-Cycle Tasks -> System Copy ->Oracle -> Target System -> Central System -> Based on AS ABAP -> Central System Installation

Hi All;

l have worked both methods that you mentioned.

Kaushal, the system copy using Oracle Backup/restore method is possible if the current system is still around because you can generate the control.sql file from source system and put it in the target system. But in the disaster, we won't be able to generate the control.sql from source system, unless we are generating everyday to keep the file to update the file, and generating the control.sql reqire downtime of the database, it is not practical at all.

Rongfeng, currently l'm using this method, l installed a new ECC then replace with the database backup from the source server, but it taking too long (especilly for the database load), so the recovery time is not only restore/recovery but the whole new installation time! it is worst that the previous version of ECC6.

l expect SAP to come out with the better option for the recovery but it is not the case, any better suggestion?

Thanks

Hi Jordan,

another tip, the whole installation takes a long time, but it is necessary to install ECC6. Instead, you can install NW AS ABAP only (I have forget the size, only about 30G), with which you have also CI.

Remeber, DB instance is not important at all. So, you can also ignore all the import errors during the installation.

Hello,

although the installation concept of ECC6 is a little different from previous version. But the recovery procedure could be done in the same way. That is,

1. install the CI instance until it is finished(both CI, DB will then be installed). It means this will take longer than before.

2. destroy the the database (it contains only data from SAP)

3. then recovery database as before.

Of course, this is only theory and you need practice it. Have fun!
