when creating a sales order...

how the system proposes the 'Plant' and 'Item Category' automatically?

Dear divya

In the Material Master, under the sales tab against the field "Delivering Plant", whatever data you maintain, that will fetch into your sale order automatically.

Item Category is being determined based on the details you maintain in VOV4.

Hi Divya!

The system determines 'item category’ based on the determination which you maintain in Transaction code: [VOV4].

i.e. the item category determination is a combination of five key elements

D.TYP + ICG + USAGE + H.I.C + D.I.C

Coming to plant, the system follows a specific search strategy. First it finds whether a plant is maintained in ‘customer material information record’ if it’s there it picks from there into the order document. Else it checks in Customer Master Record and finally in Material Master Record.

Hi Divya,

The system proposes the Plant from Material Master in Sales org 1 Delivering Plant (you can extend Material to a particular plant) if it is maintained there

or from

Delivery Plant in Customer Master (in Sales area data->shipping tab)

As explained by Arun

Item Category is determined by combination of

Sales Doc Type-> i.e. order type like OR ZOR etc.

Item Category Group->in Sales Org 2 view Material Master

Higher level item Category->If sales order has got sub items then item category of higher item

Usage->used to control whcih other item categories are to be found like packaging and so on.

Hi,

1.Item cat= sales Document Type+ Item cat groupusagehigher level item cat

Sales doc type--> comes from while ceating the sales order

Item cat group-->comes from material

Usage --> small routine for specfic cases

Higher level item cat--> This appliable for text material item cat else freegoods
