I want to know about MDM(Master Data Management) and what are the prerequisites to shift to MDM.

Hi mvk,
u said u have experience in ABAP. That ll be sufficient for MDM where u can interface through ABAP API.
Java ll be useful for JAVA APIs.
As such we never code in MDM.There is no coding in MDM.

It's a good decision for u to opt for MDM rather than ABAP b'coz there r hot good job oppurtinities in MDM & competition is less as compared to XI & ABAP . There r companies which pay u good salary.

I am working currently on ABAP ,and wants to shift to another module in SAP.As Netweaver is the current thing in SAP,I want to shift to MDM.

Hi MVK,
MDM is more helpful when there are more than one legacy systems used.
By using MDM you can maintain clean data without duplications.It deals only with Master data
& Transactional data is not taken care of.

Hello,
SAP MDM is Master Data Management Tool.
Its Basic function is to store , and send master data so that it can be utilized by various other systems.
Generic eg is like say ur user name in sdn is mvk.
If a company is using 5 different system in its IT landscape and that company needs to store "mvk" in all its sytem then they have to enter 5 times. It means more time and cost.
Rather then if we store master data (mvk in this eg) in single system and send it to the system which needs it.
For learning MDM there is nothing very hard and fast requirement. But Basic knowledge of SAP , Datamodeling(data base) and basic MDM concepts will do.
You can learn it.

Hi mvk,
MDM is a technique used to maintain Master Data. MDM is used to consolidate, cleanse, synchronize and maintaining master data in consistent form across all application.
MDM is used for removing duplicates and normalizing Master data.
During acquisitions MDM is the best technique for synchronizing the data.
Before starting MDM you need to have one Database (SQL server, Oracle or DB2), MDM Server, MDM console, Import manager, Data manager and Syndicator.
