Hi All,
Subtitution is a tool that is having a pre-requisite for it. It simply means we create rules for the required fields to be substituted; according to the rules maintained in the SPRO. For example we can create a Substitution as, Prerequisite is "Profit Center=X" then Subtitute the 'Person Responsible =Y". In PS-Project Systems Substitutions are generelly maintained for "Project Definitons, WBS Elements,Activity Header, Activities". Substitution is a two step process, it simply look into the Pre-requisite & overwrite( if maintained) the field according to the rule maintained.

Substitution and Validation tools are common tools used across SAP modules. Its is rule engine based tool. The link shown is from a FICO module but the concepts are same.

Substitutions are done for replaceing a field value with another when a prequisite is satisfied.
Create a subsitution and associate it with a network profile for project profile. The substitutions are carried out according the rules defined.
