Disadvantage of Smartform and Advantages of SAP script

Good day Gurus.,,

Can anyone please tell me the Advantages of SAP Script over Smartforms and

Disadvantages of Smartforms over SAP script.

Also is there any special scenario where only sapscript could be used but not Smartforms.

Please enlighten me....

Hi Kripa Shankar,

Though its a old post, thought  I can add my view to this.

The above discussion on scripts are based on developer prospective.. But from functional consultant point of view.SAP Scripts (Texts) are equally important and are more handy and confiugrable for quick changes.

For example, in template based printing of invoices or any other manifest documents or Labels where layout does not change frequently but content changes less frequently then you can just change the configurable text directly in the production environment of SAP, no need to go through development, moving transports. So SAP Scripts will give better turnaround for quick changes. For example you need to change the footer or company logo  you can do this more simply.

You can quickly change the ZPL scripts (Zebra printer codes) which are copied in the SAP Scripts without going through costly development cycle.

You can count on SAP Script where you want to create configurable solution in tandem with SmartForms.

Smartforms are came into picture in 4.6 version to overcome the disadvantages of scripts.

Disadvantages of Scripts

1.scripts are client dependent.

2.we can't add colors in scripts.

3.It is paragraph dependent.

4.In this main window is compulsory.

5.mutiple page formats are not availble.

6.we can't add background pictures.

Adavantages of smartforms

smartforms are advanced versions of sap scripts,

1.smartforms are client independent.

2.we can add colors in smartforms.

3.It is not a paragraph dependent.

4.In this main window is not compulsory.

5.mutiple page formats are possible.

6.we can add background pictures.

7. it will generate one function module when activating it.

8. total code can be written in smartforms itself.

sap scripts used to use in previous versions if they dont upgrate current version of sap then they have to use sap scripts because smartforms are not available in the previous versions.

it is not mandatory to go for scripts , but SF camr later scripts.

so SAP have many forms created in scripts and SF also .

S forms are advaced version of script.

If u r good at s forms. u need not go for script. It is older version for Text processing in SAP.

Now all r using s forms.

Major Differences between smart form and Scripts are

Multiple page formats are possible in smartforms which is not the case of SAP Scripts

It is possible to have a smartform without a main window

Labels cannot be created in smartforms.

Routines can be written in smartforms tool.

Smartforms generates a function module when activated

Background graphics are possible in case of SMARTFORMS

Assigning the font colours to the text are not possible in the case SMARTFORMS.

Creating and maintaining SMARTFORMS requires half the time compared to SAP Scripts

SAP introduce Smart forms over SAP Script by enhancing the functionality of SAP Script.So you will find the advantages of Smart forms over SAP Script, not the vice a versa.

SMARTFORM doesnot have such disadvantages over sapscript. Smartform is more flexible, easier than sapscript.

Hi,

scripts we can design labels,

whereas in smartform it is not possible to design labels.. it is one of the disadvantage to smartforms.

in smartforms we have table painter, graphic toolbar, but in scripts we can do in manually.

so smartform is more flexible than script.

we can write the code in layout level in smartform.
