Hi,

most times when I have seen such a problem it is an archiver stuck. Can you refer to your ORACLE Alert file and check for write failure in the archive processes?

Check the filesystem for ORACLE Archive logs. If this happens, all changeing transactions will be hanging until this archiver stuck is fixed.

Hello,

if you would have an archiver stuck ... it would not be possible to connect over BEQ (Pipes - "sqlplus "/ as sysdba").

But please set your sga_max_size to "377487360" an restart your database and try it again.

Are you using ASMM (sga_target is set)?

If this does not solve the problem ( i have seen such strange ones on AIX, too) please continue with the SQLNET trace.

Regards

Stefan

Hi,

the alert file looks wellö. No problem with the archive processes.

As I see you restarted the database. What timezone you are working ?

Did you also restart the R3 Instance and the problem still occurrs?

Yes i just restared the server after setting the parameter sga_max_size=377487360 as per stephan's reply.

i just changed the value of the parameter in the file intDEV.ora and restarted the server. is this the correct way ...?

As you can see in the alert_Dev.log in the last two lines it says Archival Stopped.

few days ago i have executed the query SELECT NAME FROM V$OBSOLETE_PARAMETER WHERE ISSPECIFIED = 'TRUE'; from the note 830576 . doest it have any impact.

the change of sga is correct. It was to small before.

The SELECT Statement you have executed has no affect for this.

You should proceed with dpmon.exe to figure out what's going on in the disp+work porocesses.

Archival stop in this case is correct.

ORACLE has startet tow archive processes and decides that one process is enaugh.

The second archive process was stopped. Thats the message you see in the alert log.

Did you change any more parameters ?

Maybe

*.pga_aggregate_target=214538649

*.sga_max_size=377487360

*.shared_pool_reserved_size=16090398

*.shared_pool_size=160903987

*.workarea_size_policy='AUTO'

You are using a System with 2 GByte Memory. The sga is about 350 MByte and you spend

200 MByte for the pga?

As I remember, the pga is a part of the sga. So we got only 150 Mbyte for the rest and 10 % of that is reserved. This seams to be bad, as I expect. We run ORACLE 10g for SAP with allways more than 400 MByte sga + pga.

Try to set down the PGA to 80 MByte. This area is used for sort operations and is shared to all ORACLE processes. Thy will be a little be slowlier when sort opeation have to be don on disk, but they will work.

Reserved shared pool area should be 5% and not 10% as you have.

Try to set:

sga_max_size=500M

shared_pool_size=250M

shared_pool_reserved_size=13107200

pga_aggregate_target=80M

Hello Ulrich,

>> As I remember, the pga is a part of the sga

Oh man no please not.. only some parts of the pga, if oracle is running in shared server mode:

http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/memory.htm#sthref1233

> If the system uses shared server architecture, then the request and response queues and some contents of the PGA are in the SGA.

> A program global area (PGA) is a memory region that contains data and control information for a server process. It is a nonshared memory created by Oracle when a server process is started. Access to it is exclusive to that server process and is read and written only by Oracle code acting on behalf of it. The total PGA memory allocated by each server process attached to an Oracle instance is also referred to as the aggregated PGA memory allocated by the instance.

The settings are not the problem with the connect over SQLNET.

Sorry, I didn't notify that you allready found an connection error.

Is it possible, that an older Listener 9i.2 is started after the system reboot ?

If that's true, this might be the error. The message "Opiino: Attach Failed! Error=-1 Ifvp=0"

is described in Metalink note 399727.1:

On a system that contains multiple databases of different versions, you notice that one database (or more) is receiving many trace files every minute (40-50) generated in the $ORACLE_HOME/udump area.

Each dump file is ~500 bytes and contains the following information:

opiino: Attach failed! error=-1 ifvp=0

The Listener.log file may contain the following errors:

TNS-12500: TNS:listener failed to start a dedicated server process

TNS-12586: Message 12586 not found; product=network; facility=TNS

ChangesThe Server contains a mix of 9.2 and 10.2 databases.

One of the listeners running is a 9.2 version.

Hello,

this can not be the complete trace.. all the open sequences are missing.

1) Stop the listener

2) Remove the listener & client trace file

3) Start the listener

4) sqlplus SAPSR3@DEV

After that please zip/rar the trace files (listener and client traces) and put them on a file hoster like rapidshare.

Stefan

Hi,

I have executed the mentioned steps,

and got the listener.trc file under the location C:\oracle\DEV\102\NETWORK\trace

Please find the link below where i have hosted the file.

You still have some problems with TNS-12541, but we are not able to have a look at your system why this is occuring. (btw. the client trace file is missing) .. so i will still point to a listener.ora/sqlnet.ora/tnsnames.ora problem.... you have set TNS_ADMIN to different directories... maybe there is something be wrong.. but without seeing it live it is hard to identify the problem.

I think you should open a SAP call for that... they can logon to your system and take a look.

Just a note: To avoid such errors i am a "fan" of registering the services by pmon (Parameter LOCAL_LISTENER).

Hi,

Regarding services, we often get this problem , most of the time server shutdown automatically, or after restart of OS the sap will not start, when we check the services, either Oracle or SAP services could not start, in this situations i manually go and change the password, then it will start working,

Hello Shark,

but here it is a "big" other problem.

>> ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: 733, 538970172, pga heap], [, [], ], [, []

>> ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist

This problem is described in metalinknote #417387.1

> This error was observed on a Oracle 10.2.0.1 environment with a Windows 2003 server

> ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [733], [538970172], [pga heap], [], [], [], [], []

> This error occurs on each attempt to restart the database and prevents the database from starting.

Can you please check the generated tracefile for the ORA-00600 if it contains the followng:

> SO: 04B1A6AC, type: 0, owner: 00000000, flag: INIT/-/-/0x00

> (FOB) flags=65802 fib=04B1A730 incno=0 pending i/o cnt=0

> fname=<spfilename.ora> fno=0 lblksz=0 fsiz=52172380

If yes here is the solution:

> The ORA-600[733] error was caused by a corrupted spfile

> To implement the solution, please execute the following steps::

> REBUILD THE SPFILE

If you will pardon the expression, but you have really "strange" problems in your windows environment.

Hello,

>> could tell me how do i execute the command to rebuild the spfile.

No problem - there are a few ways to do this:

A - copy from the spfile

> 1) open the spfile with an editor

> 2) Cut and paste the text, skipping the blank line at line 1 and the blank line at the end.

> Paste into a text file

> 3) Startup the database with pfile syntax.

> SQL> startup restrict pfile='<fully qualified text file>'

> 4) When we know the database opened, create a new spfile

> SQL> create spfile from pfile='<fully qualified text file>';

> 5) Shutdown immediate

> 6) Startup normal (without the pfile syntax)

B) Manually retype the contents of the spfile into a pfile, and open the database with the pfile

C) Always make a copy of the spfile for every change that affects the spfile. So if the spfile becomes corrupted, the database can be opened with the pfile. Make a copy as follows:

> SQL> create pfile='<fully qualified filename>' from spfile;

Here the database is not openinig,

i am exucting the command,

sqlplus /nolog

connect /as sysdba

connect to an idle instance,

when i give startup

Then it gives the error,

Hello,

you have to fix your spfile/pfile first.. as i described above... if you do not fix it... you will get an ORA-00600 all the time.

Hello,

What do you mean with database displays connected?

Are you able to login by SQLPLUS over SQLNET - please try the following as sap or oracle user:

>sqlplus SAPSR3@DEV

Please post the last lines from the alert.log.

If i understand you right.. your sap system ran and it crashed. Now you try to restart it and you stuck at this point, right?

Hi,

That was what i try to figure out.

If you are not connecting over SQLNET (Listener) are you able to query some tables? Please do the following and past the output:

> sqlplus "/ as sysdba"

> select username from dba_users;

If the query returns you the users... then please do the following again and enter your password again:

> sqlplus SAPSR3@DEV

After that please paste the corresponding lines out of the listener.log

>> opiino: Attach failed! error=-1 ifvp=00000000

This error can point to a problem with the listener. Are you running multiple oracle instances on the windows server? Maybe with different versions?

Please post also the sqlnet.ora / listener.ora and tnsnames.ora

Thanks and Regards

I did not understand regarding your mentioned error msg : opiino: Attach failed! error=-1 ifvp=00000000

Ok nice... so i am pretty sure that it is a problem with the listener, but you forgot to paste the listener.log .. so we can see no possible ORA errors.

Please try it again with "sqlplus SAPSR3@DEV" and post the corresponding lines out of the listener.log

And the other question was... are you running multiple oracle instances (installations) on the windows server? If yes what versions of oracle.

Btw. please do the following for me and post the result:

>tnsping DEV

Hi Stephan,

No , there are no other instances are running, we have abap+java installation, in sapmmc

but i am starting only Abap instance , ECCDEV 0 and ECCDEV 1 , i am starting only ECCDEV 0 ,

i am pasting the few lines of listener.log file which is very big, if you want i can you directly.

Hello,

at first just let me understand your environment up to 100%.:

- 1 SAP System with 2 ABAP instances called ECCDEV0 and ECCDEV1 (one of these is running on host ECC6DEV too)

- The listener for the oracle database DEV is running on port 1527 on the host ECC6DEV

You have paste the content of the sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora before - from which directory did you paste these files?

As i can see you have set TNS_ADMIN to the directory "C:\usr\sap\DEV\SYS\profile\oracle\" - are these files the same as you posted before?

Please post the following parameters:

> sqlplus "/ as sysdba"

> show parameter LOCAL_LISTENER

> show parameter PROCESSES

> show parameter SESSIONS

> show parameter SHARED_SERVERS

And do the following in some different cmds and post the result:

> First session

> sqlplus "/ as sysdba"

> Second session

> sqlplus SAPSR3@DEV

> First session again

> select SID, SERIAL#, STATUS, EVENT, SQL_ID, SERVICE_NAME from v$session;

Hi Stephan,

I have ABAP + JAVA instances

ECCDEV 0 as ABAP Instance

ECCDEV 1 as JAVA instance, but we are working only with ABAP Instance.

The listener for the oracle database DEV is running on port 1527 on the host ECC6DEV

PLEASE SEE THE OUTPUT OF THE COMMANDS EXECUTED

I TRIED TO EXECUTE R3TRANS -D , BUT IT IS NOT SHOWING ANY OUTPUT, CURSOR KEEPS BLINKING.

Hello,

ok the oracle parameter settings seems to be correct.

The output of the v$session command is very unclear, but after i have copied it to notepad and format the output i can only see one session that is connected ... so the second one which should connect as SAPSR3 is not forcing a shadow process ...

So back to my question from my last post:

- You have paste the content of the sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora before - from which directory did you paste these files? As i can see you have set TNS_ADMIN to the directory "C:\usr\sap\DEV\SYS\profile\oracle\" - are these files the same as you posted before?

Have you any system errors in the eventlog of windows? (maybe you are not able to force another shadow process)

To be honest ... without seeing this really strange problem - it is hard to solve it.

As the last resort, i would prefer to turn on the listener tracing and connect again with "sqlplus SAPSR3@DEV" and post the tracing here. (TRACE_LEVEL_LISTENER=16 in listener.ora)

And please post the output of the command:

> lsnrctl status

you are correct i can see the sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora files in two location ,

location 1 . C:\oracle\DEV\102\NETWORK\log

2 . C:\usr\sap\DEV\SYS\profile\oracle

under environment variable it is pointing to the location 2 .

Secondly , how do i turn on the listener tracing.

Hello,

>> under environment variable it is pointing to the location 2 .

So please post the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora again from the location "C:\usr\sap\DEV\SYS\profile\oracle".

>> Secondly , how do i turn on the listener tracing.

Please add / change the following line in the listener.ora file:

> TRACE_LEVEL_LISTENER=16 (in your case the parameter TRACE_LEVEL_LISTENER is actually set to OFF)

We have to solve the problem with SQLNET ... all other problems (with the abap instance and services) will be gone if SQLNET is working.

So please enable the trace and restart the listener. After that execute the "sqlplus SAPSR3@DEV" command and post the trace file "C:\oracle\DEV\102\network\trace\listener.trc".

Also please post the output of the following commands:

> netstat -r

> traceroute ECC6DEV.heba-fire.com

> traceroute 10.128.2.239

BTW. is the following command also not working:

> sqlplus /@DEV as sysdba

Hi,

>> I have modified the entry TRACE_LEVEL_LISTENER=16 in listener.ora file (before that it was OFF)

That is really "strange" ... your listener also starts without some tracing => "Trace Level off".

>> TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error

All these errors are pointing to a problem with the SQLNET, but to solve the TNS-12560 we need some tracing.

So please enable the listener tracing and the client tracing (for more information howto set the tracing have a look at sapnote #562403):

>listener.ora

>TRACE_LEVEL_LISTENER=16

>sqlnet.ora

>trace_level_client =16

Btw. you can also check sapnote #441518

Hi,

next step should be to check if it is something running in the disp+work processes.

You can use dpmon.exe to have a look into the dispatcher from outside SAP R/3.

How to handle dpmon.exe you will find descriptions when searching in google.

There you can see the same overview like SM50. Maybe all processes are in use by RFC?

I will have a look on this thread later today.

Hello Ulrich,

as he wrote at his beginning thread and as we already figured out there is a problem with SQLNET. A sqlplus over ethernet is also not working. So no need to have a look at the disp+work processes.

BTW. the work process is not getting any connection to the database much less the password for SAPSR3 .. i quote the corresponding lines from the beginning post.

>>C Connecting as /@DEV on connection 0 (nls_hdl 0) ... (dbsl 700 010307)

>>C Nls CharacterSet NationalCharSet C EnvHp ErrHp ErrHpBatch

>>C 0 UTF8 1 05DF7758 05DFCCF4 05DFC57C

>>C Attaching to DB Server DEV (con_hdl=0,svchp=05DFC4C8,srvhp=05E0BE94)

As i already said... we need the listener and the client traces otherwise i am not able to help you.

Regards

Stefan
