how to take backup

Dear All,

We have backup device connected to our dev server, which is a temporary tape device,which consists of only one tape of 400 GB and i need to take backup on it,

Please guide how to take the backup we are running with oracle 10G, and i think i have to make some entry in spfile or initsid.sap file i am not sure.
