what is packing ? and its purposes?
Dear deva
Packing is part of delivery- and shipment processing. When you process a delivery, you can select delivery items for packing and assign them to Structure link handling units (HUs).
Range of Functions
As an example, you could pack delivery items in boxes, pack the boxes on pallets for delivery to the customer, and load the pallets onto a truck.
The Packing component and related packing information enables you to:
Update the stock situation of packing materials
Monitor returnable packaging stocks at the customer's or forwarding agent's place of business
Help you find you what was in a particular container (for example, if a customer maintains that they have received an incomplete delivery)
Make sure that the weight and volume limits have been adhered to
Ensure that products have been packed correctly
Features
You can use packaging materials and auxiliary packaging materials to create handling units. You can also assign the following material items to handling units:
Reservation items
Finished products from work orders
Finished products from repetitive manufacturing
Delivery items
Material items without document reference

Hi,
In general terms packing means for the finished products we should keep it in well packed as per the transportation needs.
Ex:If u purchase a TV from show room they should not give u TV directly they should keep it in a well safe guarded pack.
In SAP also in case of delivery specially exports we should separetly generate a packing material for each delivery.
