Environment for XI - how many systems

Former Member

Hello,

simple question:

Is it necessary from technical side to have a system environment DEV / CONS / PROD for XI?

We plan to have in the beginning only DEV / PROD as we can do the testing in DEV system!

I am not sure now because CMS Transport description tells about different possibilities to transport between DEV -> CONS and CONS -> PROD.

Someone here with experience using environment w/o CONS?

Regards

Dirk

Hi Dirk,

it is not neccassary 2 have three systems. Two r enough. Of course it's 4 bigger projects more save 2 have tree systems. I ve been bussy in projects with two as well as in projects with three systems.

OK,

now I will add a question:

In the SAP description about XI tracks in transportstudio

there are card files listed:

a) Development

b) Consolidation

c) Assembly

d) Approval

e) Production

In c) you collect your SWCVs in CONS system

In d) you approve them for further transport to PROD.

Is this something I will define in transport studio so that I can get rid of ti?

Or is there a special way how to avoid an approval step when you will only have two systems?

Hi,

in a two system CMS environment with Dev. and Cons. you need not to assemble and/or approve. Just import ton Cons. which seems to be your Prod. system and that´s it.

For a tree system environment:

If you link two CMS tracks and transport again from Dev. to Cons. (even if it is now in reality from Cons. to Prod. that may be possible, too.
