1. what is IR?
Hi murali mohan ,
Integration Repository (IR)
The Integration Repository provides collaboration knowledge available at design time, for example, mappings, interfaces, and components. It is built in Java and follows Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) standards. The information in the Integration Repository is used by the Integration Directory, which adds configuration-specific information that is needed for execution.
SAP Integration Repository is the design configuration piece of the SAP Exchange Infrastructure (XI), the process integration layer of the NetWeaver component from SAP, the company that sells a widely-used enterprise application platform. The SAP Exchange Infrastructure uses Web standard interfaces such as Web Services Definition Language (WSDL), XML Schema Definition (XSD), and Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) so that SAP applications can communicate with non-SAP applications. At design time, the user defines or uses pre-defined interface objects for the SAP Integration Repository. These objects include Business Scenarios, Business Processes, Message Interfaces, Message Types, Data Types, Message Mappings, and Interface Mappings. The application developer refers to these objects in defining the interactive flow between applications for the SAP Integration Directory. When an application is executed, the messaging flow is drawn from the Integration Directory. During execution, depending on specified code, the SAP Integration Server may send messages to multiple receivers; split a message into multiple messages; route a message based on content; and so forth.
The integration repository in SAP NetWeaver XI contains information on the content. During the configuration period, settings are made in the integration directory with the assistance of information from the integration repository. SAP NetWeaver XI 3.0 (as of service pack 3) provides a software assistant for this purpose. It greatly simplifies configuration and starts with the definition of a scenario in the integration repository delivered with the content for SAP NetWeaver XI. If you want to integrate an external system for which no content exists in SAP NetWeaver XI, you can define your own interface descriptions and mapping rules in the information repository to determine the path that a data transport should take and how conversion should appear. A variety of formats are available to import the interface descriptions, including RFC, IDoc, WSDL, DTD, or XSD.
The integration builder tool is used to maintain entries in the integration repository and in the integration directory. The system landscape directory contains information on the software products presents and the description of the installed system landscape. SAP NetWeaver XI uses this information.

Hi Mohan,
About IR(Integration repository)...?
Well ......designing part of the interface in xi is done during integraton repository.......it is used for designinig of interfaces ......in IR we select our source(outbound).and target (inbound ) data ......
all mapping function comes under IR..........it is one of the major component of integration builder ......in xi.
for further details u have above links.........just read that once ..........!
Regards,
Azeez khan.
