I understand that one of the latest Service Pack (SP) for XI allows us to perform Encryption out of box (I think it was SP 13). If my assumption is correct, does anyone know how that works and what type of encryptions are supported?

The only encryption related addition I see is:
51748 HTTP: Added new service properties -
ClientCertificateChainHeaderPrefix,
ClientKeySizeHeaderName and ClientCipherSuiteHeaderName
