How two SAP PI communicate?

Guys,

Just need to know how two SAP PI systems communicate...including what adapters and communication protocol need to be used.

Hi Karthik,

If the version of two Sap Systems is below 6.4 then they communicate using Idoc and RFC Adapters................

If the version is above the 6.4 then they dont require any adapters ..they communicate through Proxies .........................

If iam going to use proxy for PI to PI communciation then which will be client or server proxy ?

or

Can i use Http adapter to communicate between two PI ?

two PI s communicate via proxies , as per my knowledge no adapter is required.

XI adapter is used for internal functionality.

XI adapter can be configured to exchange messages with an Integration Engine

Using XI Adapter, XI<>XI communication and PCK<>XI communications are possible.
