Guys,
Just need to know how two SAP PI systems communicate...including what adapters and communication protocol need to be used.

If the version of two Sap Systems is below 6.4 then they communicate using Idoc and RFC Adapters................
If the version is above the 6.4 then they dont require any adapters ..they communicate through Proxies .........................

two PI s communicate via proxies , as per my knowledge no adapter is required.
XI adapter is used for internal functionality.

XI adapter can be configured to exchange messages with an Integration Engine
