Do we have Callback feature for the Asynchronous business process in XI?

I dont think call back feature is available in XI.
I assume call back is nothing but calling the calling function from with in the called functions.. (As in OS call back functions)

Callback : System1 makes asynchronous call to System2. Once System2 done with the task it has to call System1 to give the message.
The callback feature would be a characteristic of the receiver system and i dont think it should be a feature of XI. The receiver system based on its nature should run some background process or report for handling this process.

So, only thro' workaround we can achieve this requirement, but not with the XI features..Right?
