Hi Sap Guru's

I have few questions on Item categories...plz do answer.

1)Why ‘item usage’ is required and how it gets triggered

2) Can we have partner, text, incompletion procedures at the header level as well as at item level. If we can have 2 different procedures for 2 different line items.

3)Why has SAP given the concept of item category groups and what are its benefits and how do we use them to determine item categories.

Hi,

1) It tells the Usage of material, its a hard coded.

2) Yes, we can have these determination at both levels. But having different PPs for different line items in same Sls Doc type is not possible.

3) The item category group determines how a material is processed in the sales order. It defines, for example, that pricing does not take place for a free of charge item, such as a business gift; or that inventory management is not carried out for a service. When processing sales and distribution documents, the system uses the item category group to determine the item category. The system determines the item category based on the item category group of the material and the current business transaction, and proposes it in the respective document.

When creating the material types non-stock material and services, DIEN is proposed in both cases for the item category group, because the order processing for both material types is identical: for example, pricing is carried out for both, but no availability check.

Hi Friend,

These are your answers,

1. Item usage defines the usage of the material by the customer and it comes from customer material info records.

2. We always have different Partner, Text and Incompletion procedure at header and item level. And we can have different procedure for two Item under a same header.

3. Item category group is to grouping similar material, for which we want to have same type of behaviour during any transaction.

And we define determinaion rule for Item Categories and with combilnation with Item Categories Group and Document Type and Usage and Higher level Item Categories we determine the Item Category.
